Diary Entry of February 9, 1874

Overview

A letter from Schott finally allows the contract to be settled on what R. sees as honorable terms, briefly easing the uncertainty around the enterprise. Even so, the King’s request for formal guarantees and the need for further opinions keep the future performances unresolved and still dependent on outside judgment.

Sunday, February 9:

Letters from Herr Schott. R. and he conclude the contract, which, in R.'s words, “is equally honorable for both sides.”

In the afternoon comes a letter from friend Feustel, saying the King has asked for a formulation of the guarantee and at the same time for an expert opinion from the management committee. Considerations as to whether the performances will be possible, in the year '75, after all. R. writes to Brandt and Hoffmann in this connection.
