Tuesday, December 23:
Slept until nearly midday, yet despite that felt very tired. R. works; we go out in the afternoon to Argersheim, “Vexation Hall”, as we call the house, since we are always finding something there that has been missed or forgotten. Home in the rain at about five o’clock, when Lusch, who has to keep to her room, gives presents to a poor child.
In the evening I decorate the big fir tree. R., loving and kind as ever, comes to join me and reads to me and Malwida the Wallachian fairy tale of BagaUa, which we greatly enjoy.
What above all makes me happy is R.’s good mood; all day long he keeps us in fits of laughter with his incredible sallies, and I thank Nature for her kindness in bestowing on him this divine gift of humor.
