Monday, December 22:

A wet day, but I still have to do some shopping. R. works busily, without thoughts of the difficulties that surround him!

Yesterday I put the little ones to bed and prayed with them, oh, how feelingly, how ardently, a formulation of a leading up to the unconditional acceptance of life's difficulties!

At lunch today R. spoke about history, how it can be summed up in the exertions and sufferings of great individuals: “What else is the history of the Reformation but the sufferings of Luther? What became of the Reformation after him?”

Spent the evening gilding fir cones and threading them.

To bed at about one o’clock, kept from sleeping by the indisposition of Daniella, who has caught a cold.
