Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of October 15, 1873

Overview

On October 15, the diary settles into routine with insignificant correspondence and ordinary work, while Wagner remains unwell and troubled by bad nights. A conference with Feustel and the mayor gives some encouragement that plans are not lost, though the proposal to take him to Munich meets Wagner's reluctance. The evening ends with literary and social visits, including Uhland and Bazaine.

Content

Wednesday, October 15:

Insignificant letters; I write many myself; everything is again in its usual order. R. works, but he is still unwell, having bad nights (dreams of two importunate Jewesses). He has a conference with Feustel and the mayor, which reveals that by no means all is lost.

Friend Feustel wants, at all costs, to take R. with him to Munich. He declares that the King only wants to be asked; fundamentally, he is annoyed at not being the patron and only requires a little pushing — God knows! R. is very reluctant.

In the evening Uhland and Bazaine.
