Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of October 13, 1873

Overview

The morning begins with an excursion to the Eremitage, which appears very pleasant, followed by lunch with the mayor and Feustel, who still insists that the matter is not over and urges R. to see the King in Munich. The evening is spent at home after a trip to the theater. R. plays the third act of Tristan, moving the writer so deeply that it nearly breaks her heart.

Content

Monday, October 13:

(Morning) I drive with our friend to the Eremitage, which looks very delightful, and after that lunch at home with the mayor and friend Feustel, who is not downhearted in spite of the bad state of things. He urges R. to go with him to Munich and to present himself to the King. He says the last word has not yet been spoken in this affair. God knows!

Then we drove with our friend to the theater, and from there home, where we spent the evening. R. plays Tristan (3rd act), making my heart almost break with emotion.
