Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of August 27, 1873

Overview

The diarist wrote to her father while R. sent off his circular and received letters from Berlin and Hamburg, including concert proposals from Herr Loser. R. had apparently begun thinking he might need to travel to Berlin in October to finish the theater. Family lunch with Malwida took place in heavy, close weather that made the day feel oppressive. There was also concern about the lower rooms of the house and about R.’s foot, with gout feared.

Content

Wednesday, August 27:

Wrote to my father; R. sends off his circular. Letters from Berlin and Hamburg; Herr Loser gets in touch again, announces a visit, and makes proposals for concerts. Curiously enough, R. said only yesterday that he would presumably have to go to Berlin in October, so that he can at least complete the theater. God knows.

Family lunch with Malwida; dull and close weather in the garden; the lower rooms in the house cause me much concern, for they ... R. complains about his foot; I very much fear the onset of gout.
