Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of May 24, 1873

Overview

Wagner sleeps well but is preoccupied by the interruption to his work caused by travel. The afternoon and evening are spent with visitors and practical matters, including discussions of decorative materials, which make the day feel somewhat tiresome. Amid this, the narrator is pleased by the children’s composure at the recent festivities. The tone is one of fatigue after celebration, with family behavior providing the day’s main consolation.

Saturday, May 24:

R. slept quite well, but is concerned about the interruption in his work caused by the impending journey to Weimar. The Ritters were here in the afternoon and evening; besides them, Herr Schütz from Leipzig with patterns for wallpaper and carpets, a somewhat tiring afternoon.

(The children pleased me yesterday with their good behavior at the party; they all have much natural grace.)
