Monday, August 26:
A fair! Yesterday in the woods I heard a great deal of music and singing which pleased me a lot, and today the noise is even greater, peasant dances right up to the house.
R. has to go to town early today; it makes me sad to let him go, but Brückwald and Brandt are there, and there are many things to be discussed. All day long with the children; worked in the morning, in the afternoon with them to the Salamander Valley.
More letters from Marie M.; she worries me with the report that Hans would dearly like to remain in Munich. His concert for Bayreuth, sonatas, is said to have been brilliant.
R. returns home at about 7 in the evening, completely hoarse! He also brings some money. I am sad that so much is spent, alas, and I worry over our moving to a new house, worry because our expenditure is always increasing and our income not, worry because R. is becoming so involved in his enterprise before the certificates are signed.
My only help is the grateful belief that God, who has protected us so far, will continue to protect us! R. is very pleased with his machinist. But he is very tired!
