Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of June 18, 1872

Overview

R. has a better night and enough strength to work, and the mood lifts noticeably as he walks into town while she meets him later with the little ones. He has already inquired after the dean, who seems somewhat improved, so the earlier anxiety eases. The two spend a cheerful evening talking about Reineke Fuchs, which she is reading at the moment. News of Alfred Meissner’s death gives the day a more somber note beneath the improved spirits.
