Diary Entry of May 14, 1872

Overview

They arrived in Bayreuth to a warm welcome from the mayor before continuing to the Fantaisie, where the children were overjoyed to reunite with everyone and receive their gifts. The household spent the rest of the day unpacking and settling in, though the work left them exhausted. R. was pleased by the children and the quiet of the place, and the fine weather seemed to follow him.

Arrival at 8 o'clock; nice reception by the mayor, who arranges everything quietly and prudently. Busy in Bayreuth until nearly eleven o'clock, then on to the Fantaisie.

Loldi sees us first; great joy at reunion, Fidi very moved; distribution of presents, for Fidi his first knee-breeches. Arrival of a portion of our things; unpacking, great weariness.

R. pleased with the children and the quietness here. Peacock calls greet us; fine weather; the people in Bayreuth say R. has brought it with him.
