Monday, April 15:
R. tells me his dream: he went out in curious finery, with a wig on his head and a doctor’s gown; behind him some acquaintances were walking, rather like the Heims, and they said he was an eccentric, he always dressed like that. He turned around and cried out: “No, I want to marry my wife, and in Berlin this is expected of me.”
In the afternoon the painter Zelger, who buys our superfluous frames from us. R. proposes remaining here throughout the summer and completing Götterdämmerung. We go for a walk into town in the beautiful weather; but on the way home we meet Countess B., and R. is vexed because I leave his arm and walk beside her. He says he does not belong to this world and does not wish to sacrifice his peace to it.
