Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 10, 1872

Overview

Hellmesberger finally writes with good news from Vienna, fixing the concert for May 12. A visit from Frau Heim is pleasant, though her arrival interrupts R.’s work and leaves her feeling uneasy about it. The day also includes a letter from Nietzsche, playtime with the children, finishing Maria Stuart, and sadness over the Stockers giving away their baby.

Sunday, March 10:

Hellmesberger writes at last; the results in Vienna are good; our concert fixed for May 12. Around 12 o’clock Frau Heim from Zurich, whom we were expecting. But since I was not yet dressed and I assumed that R. was finished with his work, I had her shown in to him, and this disturbed him in his work, which distresses me. Apart from that, the visit is agreeable, for Frau Heim is a good and intelligent person. Prof. Nietzsche sends Hase’s Poem and a letter to him from my father, who claims precedence for Golgotha and Tabor over Helicon and Parnassus. Played charades with the children; in the evening finished Maria Stuart.

Sad feelings over the departure of the baby, which the Stockers have given away. (Wrote letters to M. Schl., Schure, etc.)
