Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of February 3, 1872

Overview

She rose from a bleak night into a fresh snowfall that seemed to cover Fitzo’s grave and deepen her sadness. While the children appeared to be moving on, she felt alone in carrying the dog’s memory. A letter from R. brought news of his plans to go to Munich and his satisfaction with Bayreuth, Feustel, and their house prospects, which she received with a blessing for him.

Saturday, February 3:

Went sadly to bed; rose despondent. A new snowfall covers poor Fitzo. The children do not seem to be thinking about him; I shall probably be the only one in whom the poor creature will live on.

In the afternoon a letter from R.; he is going to Munich, for what reason I do not exactly know. He really did see the Grand Duke in Weimar. He is happy about everything in Bayreuth, Feustel, Fantaisie, the house, everything. God give him His blessing. (Letters to Fritz and Judith.)
