Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of January 27, 1872

Overview

With no telegram arriving, anxiety returns under a pale, cold sky. A letter from her father brings news of Hans’s successes in Vienna and Pest, along with the libretto of his Christus, but it does not fully dispel the worry. Later in the day a telegram from R. finally comes, saying he is resting and returning by way of Weimar, Dessau, and Bayreuth after deciding what to do. The evening ends more peacefully, with a satisfied reading of Tasso.

Saturday, January 27:

No telegram, anxious mood; pale sunshine and the air cold. Letter from my father, with reports on Hans's great successes in Vienna and Pest. He sends the libretto of his Christus.

Toward evening a telegram from R.; he is in need of rest, has decided what to do, and is returning via Weimar, Dessau, Bayreuth. In the evening read Tasso with great enjoyment.
