Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Friedrich Feustel

October 9, 1877 · Bayreuth

Overview

To prove the project is alive, Wagner urges Feustel to start advertising for applications to the proposed school, on whose response a decision about engaging the singing-master Hey must depend; a bad toe stopped him from calling in person.

Letter

Dearest Friend!

In order to prove the vitality of our entire project it seems to me to be high time to begin with the advertisements for applications.

In regard to Hey we shall be obliged to come to some conclusion, and this can only appear justifiable when we shall have been given our cue to a certain extent by the success of the announcement in regard to the school.

Therefore—in haste—advertise! or: have you any doubts then: hold back entirely! What do you think?

I was on my way to you, but my bad toe forced me to turn back.

Cordial greetings from

Your ever devoted

Richard Wagner.
