Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Anton Pusinelli

December 26, 1873 · Bayreuth

Overview

At a crisis point, needing to know by the New Year whether he can place orders for a 1875 festival, Wagner asks what came of Wesendonck's announced conference with Pusinelli and whether any help is forthcoming from that quarter.

Letter

Dear Friend!

Before the close of this weary year, I still must ask you for some information.

About 3 weeks ago, Wesendonck wrote me that he was about to have a conference with you. Please tell me what was intended there, and what perhaps has come of it. I am standing at the point of a crisis, and by the end of the year I must know whether there may be some definite help for my enterprise. For whether or not we have a performance in 1875 depends on whether I can issue the necessary commissions on the 1st of January. In short, has — or has not — anything been done on the part of Wesendonck (whom, however, I have no wish to urge further)? That's what I should like to know.

And now, best wishes for a Happy New Year to you, your dear wife, and your entire excellent family, from me and my family! Good-bye, dear beloved friend!
