Cosima Wagner to Ernst Benedikt Kietz

September 6, 1870 · Lucerne

Subject

Written on Wagner's behalf

Overview

Cosima writes for the overworked Wagner, regretting the calamity of the Franco-Prussian War that has stranded Kietz in Zurich, and explaining that the Tribschen guest room is occupied by Hans Richter and that they are about to travel.

Letter

Dear Herr Kietz,

Richard, overloaded with work, requests me to tell you that he immensely regrets the calamity in which you are involved. He hopes that the soon-to-be-expected end of the war will restore you to where you live and that you will find employment in Zürich in the meantime. We have not asked you to see him in Triebschen because our guest room is occupied by Conductor Richter, and after the completion of a pressing work my husband and I will start off for a little trip.

With best thanks for your friendly congratulations, and cordial regards

C. Wagner
