Wagner's Letters

Eugène Cormon to Richard Wagner

March 14, 1861 · Paris

Overview

The stage director of the Opéra informs Wagner that Niemann's indisposition forces a change in the next day's Tannhäuser performance, and asks him to meet Boyer, Vauthrot and Dietsch with the score to settle any changes.

Letter

Mon cher Maître:

Niemann is indisposed, which compels us to change tomorrow's performance; it will thus be impossible for us to leave the theater. Mr. Boyer wants me to tell you that Mr. Vauthrot and Mr. Dietsch will be in his office at two-thirty with the score, and he requests that you be kind enough to come there. I shall be there myself, and if there are any changes to be made we shall all be there to listen to you and no time will be lost.

I remain your devoted
E. Cormon
