Most faithful of all friends!
So I have to change my plans after all! It was my intention, in the face of your stubborn disbelief in me, not to write to you again until I could send you at least 100 francs at the same time. Not even your remorseful letters could shake me in this, because I hoped to hasten the fulfillment of my wish through the compulsion put on me. Well, it has not yet been possible for me to do so: I must continue to live from hand to mouth, and for the last four weeks I've been in no position to finance my intended trip to Paris, because I haven't yet got the money for it. But I'm telling you now that I hope to be able to reach Paris by the end of this week; if not, I'll come sometime next week in any case. I would be very happy if you could meet me. You'll accordingly get another letter from me on the morning before my arrival in Paris. And so—farewell! Best regards,
Your
R. W.
