Wagner's Letters

Richard Wagner to Joseph Tichatschek

August 25, 1848 · Dresden

Overview

Wagner urges Tichatschek to hurry home: Riedel's opera has been shelved and Lüttichau wants the new opera, Lohengrin, as soon as possible, so that only the tenor's absence delays rehearsals.

Letter

Good day, dearest Friend!

God knows where these lines will reach you! But if they reach you may they call out to you as if with my voice: "Stay away no longer and return as soon as possible!" Riedel's opera has now been put on the shelf and Lüttichau wants to have my new opera as soon as possible. Your absence is now all that prevents me from beginning with the studying. As soon as you come and still feel the old desire, then we shall start!

Counting on seeing you soon I shall write only these few lines, but I greet you with a joyful heart!

Adieu! Your
Richard Wagner
