Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of November 7, 1871

Overview

The Bologna chorus sends respectful greetings, reinforcing Wagner's warm sense of Italy's response to Lohengrin. He copies his Italian letter and handles correspondence while Cosima works with the children and receives Ottilie's friendly but still unhelpful note about childcare. The evening is melancholy and letter-filled, and November already weighs heavily on Cosima.

Tuesday, November 7:

The chorus singers in Bologna send R. their respects. A friendly nation! Lucky he who earns his living there! Worked with the children. R. copies out his letter to Italy and writes other letters. Nice missive from Ottilie, but she still has found nobody for the children.

Melancholy evening, spent in writing letters. I find the month of November hard to bear.
