Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of June 25, 1871

Overview

Brandt's silence and dreary weather make the outside world feel hostile, but Richard continues working. He admits that easy composition could earn money, yet he cannot write merely anything. Nietzsche's pamphlet impresses them, and the day ends with children's play and renewed plans for their house.

Content

Sunday, June 25:

No word from Brandt. Dismal weather; the silence from outside looks spiteful. R. works, however; he says, “If I could compose just anything, I could now make myself a lot of money. But I can’t do that.”

Read Prof. Nietzsche’s pamphlet with great interest; he is certainly the most outstanding of our friends. Then played with the children, and in the evening made plans for our house.
