Tuesday, May 2:
Bad night for R., but at 10 o’clock to the rehearsal. R. greeted with a flourish; the orchestra seems to us better than previously, and the people exert themselves. R., however, when he is conducting, gives his heart’s blood and a portion of his life, so I feel sad, even though enchanted.
Arrival of the engravings; they do not satisfy me, but the engraver reports the tremendous success of the Kaisermarsch in Munich. R. goes to bed; I receive visitors.
In the evening Tausig comes and plays Bach chorales for us. Lothar Bucher came and, on Bismarck’s behest, asked R. to call on the Prince.
