Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of March 6, 1871

Overview

Lulu remains unwell while Richard begins The Destiny of Opera with weary awareness that he must restate old arguments. Frau Serov's letter consoles them by saying Cosima's message reached Serov before his death. A beautiful but tiring walk, a return to Gibbon, and Richard's anxious scolding over Cosima's cough shape the rest of the day.

Monday, March 6:

Lulu still unwell; R. working on his Destiny of Opera. "That one always has to go on chewing the same thing over and over!"

Letter from Frau Serov, who informs me that my letter arrived in time to give her husband pleasure.

From Winkel we go for a lovely walk, but return home tired. In the evening took up Gibbon again. Since I am coughing, R. rebukes me sharply for not wearing a neckerchief.
