Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of February 16, 1871

Overview

The day is largely practical, filled with children's lessons and preparations for Eva's birthday trip to Zurich. Cosima writes to Mathilde Maier while Richard answers letters, works on the coronation march, and corrects his biography late into the evening. Her own reading of Calderon provides a charming private counterpoint to the bustle.

Thursday, February 16:

Work with the children, then nothing really except travel preparations; great excitement among the children, because Eva's birthday is to be celebrated tomorrow in Zurich.

I write to Mathilde Maier. R. writes letters, works on his coronation march, and late in the evening corrects his biography, while I begin Calderon's El monstruo de los jardines, which I find very charming.
