Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of November 4, 1870

Overview

Rumors of an armistice unsettle the household because Wagner still favors bombardment, while Bamberger's articles feed their reflections on national psychology. Cosima teaches the children, chooses Christmas books, and is unexpectedly moved by a description of Indian religion. The evening's reading of El tejedor de Segovia provides a quieter literary close to a politically anxious day.
