Overview

Saturday, September 9:

R. slept well. Lacking something light to read, he takes up a book Lusch is now reading, Cooper’s The Bravo. At lunch we have our neighbors the Scholers. I then suggest to R. the pretty drive to Laineck and the walk through the meadows as far as St. Johannis. The weather is very lovely, but R. finds the final stretch through the village onerous and calls for the carriage; Isolde, fearing that it will be in the place where we first ordered it to wait, rushes ahead; meanwhile the carriage, which had just been driving up and down, makes its appearance before R. and I arrive at that spot, and in indescribable concern we then set out to look for Isolde, whom we at last find in Laineck! — R. very angry, I am just glad to have my child back! In the evening we play whist. Herr v. St.’s impending departure brings my worries about Siegfried’s education so close that it is all I can do to keep them at bay.
