Friday, September 1:
R. had a good night’s rest. I have a discussion with Herr Schön on Society affairs. R. feels uneasy about the King, particularly the fact that Herr v. Bürkel, present at the last performance, did not visit us. The FI. Blatter cheers him up, and a very nice letter from Blandine gives us great delight. At lunch we have our excellent machinist Fritz Brandt, who cannot be praised too highly. The weather is nice in the afternoon, and Dr. Landgraf, whom R. meets in the Giles’s Day. The tame magpie, which has been giving us pleasure for some time now, appears again, attracted by the brilliance of Wahnfried.
In the evening we see our friends again, R. plays Bach’s C-sharp Minor Prelude and the Prelude to Parsifal. These evenings with the last remaining guests are friendly and intimate, and, like me, R. does not find them unpleasant.
