Cosima's Diaries

Overview

Corrections, rehearsals, and hospitality occupy the day, but fatigue finally forces R. to push friends aside and ask for solitude. The second act is advancing, but only at the cost of his strength.

Monday, July 10:

In the morning R. writes a correction to the erroneous news about the alleged text for Die Sieger, which a Herr Lessmann has again published in his periodical. We go to the orchestra rehearsal of the 2nd act, which turns out very well. Afterward we entertain Herr Hill and his wife, Frl. Dompierre, Herr Fuchs (Knight) at lunch. At 5 o'clock reading rehearsal with piano, Frl. Brandt sings Kundry. Gudehus pleases us with his magnificent voice; but R. is very tired. He wishes to be alone, we put off our friends. The conductor and Joukowsky call late in the evening.
