Friday, April 28:
Today we are once more led to the subject of the Classical Walpurgis Night, and R. calls it a veritable cathedral, so beautifully is it constructed. A fine article by Dr. Schem. in the Blätter brings us to it, but R. deplores the lack of humor in all these pieces. Singer news and difficulties, R. calls Vogl a bit of raw gristle! In the evening a farewell soiree at Princess Hatzfeldt’s, at which R. feels ill at ease. He is embarrassed by Lusch’s having gone somewhere else, and he tells me of his tendency to be jealous of his loved ones.
