Saturday, April 1:
After a good night we take the early train to Catania and are utterly entranced by the journey. The handsome town, through which we are conducted by Marquis S. Giuliano, pleases us greatly; at lunch the Marquis quotes “The Landgrave's Address” in Tannhäuser. The little excursion does R. good; he is impressed by the sight of the Gravina tomb beside the royal ones.
In the evening the children sing, R. accompanies them, and we play whist.
