Saturday, March 11:
And so at 8 o’clock I abandon father and son! My little package from Parco arrives in good time for my dear ones’ lunch. R. had had a restless night, and I returned home in some anxiety, to find R. very well and cheerful. He says he spent an idyllic day with Fidi; they went for a walk together, and the little diversion my package caused seems also to have had a not unbeneficial effect. He has completed his outline for the open letter to Wolzogen.
In the evening he tells us a moving story he read in the Tagblatt about the elephant in London (which we saw); this has demonstrated to him in the most striking way the nobility of animals and the stupidity of human beings. We chat all evening, telling him about our “Greek” experiences in Piana dei Greci.
