Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of February 24, 1882

Overview

A violent chest spasm leaves R. deeply dejected, and the whole day contracts into worry beside Fidi's sickroom. Conversation and reading provide only the slightest relief against the sense of physical and emotional strain.

Content

Friday, February 24:

R. had a good night, but all the same he has a very severe chest spasm. He thinks of Schiller’s sufferings and feels extremely dejected. The day passes in anxiety; we spend the evening upstairs in Fidi’s vicinity. The children chat, and I relate to R. various things from the correspondence between Goethe and Marianne Willemer.
