Diary Entry of September 5, 1881
The family departs and sees Isolde off at the Hof station, then travels onward with a smaller group of four. Wagner passes the journey reading Gobineau's travel writing and finds particular delight in the Tharandt landscape rolling by outside the train window.
Monday, September 5:
Farewells, departure; saw Loldi off in Hof at 4 o’clock. R. reads Gobineau’s Trois ans en Asie; he is pleased with the countryside in the Erzgebirge, but most of all with Tharandt. (He, I, Eva, and Siegfried!)
The two elder girls are in Kaibitz, Isolde in Bug.
