Friday, August 26:
R. has a slight headache, but he quickly recovers; he is pleased to see in the Ill. Z. a picture of Schloss Püchau, to which our little puppies have now been sent. He works on his article.
The presence of the Sachse-Hofmeister couple at lunch threatens at first to disturb him a little, but we slide past the difficulties. Since the weather is quite summery, we first sit in the pavilion and then take a drive with Marianne Brandt, who has just arrived. After that there is work to be done until suppertime, and the evening is spent in chat. A lovely starry sky shines down upon us, but R. and I are still feeling strange in this changed existence. “Oh, were I in my halls,” etc., he whispers to me.
