Sunday, April 10:
R. had a restless night, dreamed of wounded people and cries of fear. He does not work in the morning and feels run down at lunch. However, he celebrates Loldi at the presentation of gifts and in the evening with the sounds of Parsifal. We continue to talk a lot about Russia and about Count G.’s theories. We go for a walk in a still very raw wind.
In the evening we are visited by a conductor from Frankfurt named Kniese who offers his services as an assistant at the performances. Our conversation turns to tenors, etc., and telegrams from Herr Neumann, alarmed on account of the Francke project, also provide things from the outside world - and thoroughly unpleasant ones - to talk about! R. laments that among musicians he has only the most primitive handymen to represent him! Now we are returning to the old miseries, and both of us are apprehensive, in our own ways.
An enthusiastic letter to Kotzebue from Beethoven made us laugh in the morning.
