Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of October 23, 1880

Overview

R. told of a dream in which a performance of Der fliegende Holländer in Munich began without him, to his fury, after he had settled the children. My neuralgia returned in the cold dark room, forcing us downstairs and then back to bed, while R. jokingly introduced Joukowsky to the doctor as Count Mattei.

Content

Saturday, October 23:

R. dreamed that he was to conduct Der fl. Holländer in Munich; he had already seen the children to their seats, was going to his place, was held up; to his great annoyance, the work began without him.

I feel my neuralgia again, the dark, cold room bad for it; we move downstairs, and again I have to stay in bed.

(R. introduces Joukowsky to the doctor as Count Mattei.)
