Monday, October 11:
As usual, out of doors twice with R., once at midday, once in the afternoon; in the afternoon we wander through the Merceria, and when I go into a shop to buy a muff for Lusch, R. bids me make haste; I start explaining to him that I shall need a little time, but he interrupts me and stops the whole thing in the most charming way by exclaiming, “How beautiful you are!”
In the evening he is so merry that he plays a joke on our friend Joukowsky, removing the lamps in his absence and allowing him to think we have all suddenly gone off to bed.
