Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of September 4, 1880

Overview

R. rose feeling seriously ill and feared dysentery, so I called the doctor, who found fever but prescribed rest along with medicine. The enforced quiet helped him enough that by evening he was up again and speaking animatedly about the Franco-Prussian War.

Saturday, September 4:

R. gets up feeling very unwell, and since he thinks it is an attack of dysentery, I send for the doctor; he says it is not dysentery, but he finds that R. has a temperature and prescribes bismuth, laudanum, and rest. The last of these does R. so much good that he gets up in the evening and talks in a lively way (about the Franco-Prussian War).
