Tuesday, August 17:
R. had to endure another spasm at first, but he finally slept well and is in cheerful spirits at breakfast. The proofs of the biography arrive, and both of us read them with enjoyment. In the morning he wrote to friend Wolzogen and ended with the words “Germania hurrah!”
At my suggestion we have supper earlier and let it consist of tea and cold foods, and afterward we go for a walk in the last rays of the setting sun and in moonlight. It is really lovely, or would be lovely, indeed glorious, if R. were not feeling so tired!
Returning home, I write to Mimi Schl. about Grafenberg, the idea of which already alarms R., since, as he says, he likes civilized places.
