Monday, May 24:
Fine weather, which vexes R. inasmuch as, having reckoned on bad weather, he had canceled the outing to Amalfi. As a small consolation I suggest a drive to the Villa Floridiana, which gives us much pleasure, particularly when we go inside.
In the evening a discussion of the outing, which ends in great laughter when, after the weather has been considered the deciding factor, R. declares, "Whatever the weather, we are going tomorrow!"
Tuesday, May 25:
Preparations; at noon departure from the Villa d'Angri in some agitation, since we are afraid of arriving too late. A saloon carriage awaits us, through the good offices of friend Joukowsky, to the delight of R., who sings, "When my master starts his travels, what things there are to see!"
Heavenly journey to Amalfi, visit to the cathedral, which vexes R. somewhat, but the evening, spent on the terrace of the Hôtel des Capucins, restores his good spirits, which had already begun to emerge during the meal, when he teased me for my curiosity about Saint Andrew, "viewed by daylight."
