Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of May 16, 1880

Overview

R. is restless in the night but still manages to compose a little verse for the portrait he is sending Joukowsky. At breakfast he is affectionate and tells the writer she is indispensable to him, then the day passes with callers and another evening of stars and moonlight.

Content

Sunday, May 16:

R. had a somewhat restless night, and he works out a little poem to attach to the picture of himself which he is giving to friend Joukowsky.

He is in good spirits at breakfast and says to me, “Without you I am nothing; now make use of your comfortable position.”

Some callers. In the evening starry skies and moonlight again.
