Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of January 18, 1870

Overview

Cosima’s sleeplessness comes from renewed agitation over her mother’s question about Hans, but she composes herself enough to teach the children. Richard works while the household settles into relative health amid snowy weather. Public events in France dominate the newspapers, and the evening begins with Timon of Athens.

Content

Tuesday, January 18:

Sleepless night; reason: my inner agitation about my mother's asking how Hans is. I pull myself together, however, as much as I can, and give the children their lesson. R. works. Everyone fairly well, snow outside.

I start on my embroidery for R. Nothing from outside; the newspapers are full of Rochefort, Prince Bonaparte, Ollivier, etc. In the evening began Timon of Athens.
