Overview

R. works with renewed concentration, testing whether the opera’s rhetorical and dramatic material can serve the symphonic idea behind it. He also takes the children and Friedel out walking, though the excursion is complicated by dogs and a cat, before the day closes with a social card party.

Sunday, March 30:

R. had a tolerable night and goes to his work, wanting to see whether the rhetorical and dramatic part will suit the symphony. (Yesterday he was in Angermann’s with Friedel and Jus Staff and was very pleased with our son!) In the afternoon he takes the girls and Friedel for a walk, goes a long way, but has trouble with the dogs and a cat. In the evening a whist party at Frau v. Schoeler’s.
