A dream I tell R. amuses him so much that I will tell it here, as he himself told it to the children at lunch. An actress playing Minna von Barnhelm was addressed by one of the other characters on stage as Frl. von B/rnhelm; she tried to keep a straight face, but when she saw the laughter spreading, she showed her annoyance; the actor she was addressing replied that it was not at his mistake that everyone was laughing, but at her hairstyle - blonde in the middle, brunette at the sides. More or less thus, for no dream can be told quite as it was.
R. says he has composed two bars, but they are very important ones, an addition in the middle of the prelude: they had occupied his mind the minute he awoke in the morning. The skies still overcast, but R. goes for a walk. In the evening he reads us the third act of Die Meistersinger. Today received [a picture of] R.’s wedding house.
