Saturday, July 20:

R. satisfied with his night’s sleep, he woke up and got out of bed just once. Letters from the Ritters, the good people are happy at the thought of coming to Bayreuth. I take leave of the loyal Glasenapps.

When I was looking through some papers with him yesterday, I came upon the original theme for “Sangst du nicht, dein Wissen”; I tell R. that the present one (meant at first for Buddha) pleases me far more. “Yes,” he says, “I couldn’t do it then, though I felt it; at the time it had to be completed for Weimar, and I found working repugnant.”

The first really fine day, we drive out in the evening to the Fantaisie. Boni is causing me concern, R. wonderfully kind with his sympathy and help, he speaks to Boni.
