Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of November 30, 1869

Overview

A telegram reports enthusiastic reception of Die Meistersinger in Weimar, but Richard is unwell and writes letters instead of working. A mistaken engagement notice linking Doris Brockhaus and Richard Wagner amuses them, as does an anonymous request to compose a Faust. Cosima reads Pohl the Parzival sketch, and the biography fills the evening.

Tuesday, November 30:

Telegram from Weimar. Die Meistersinger has been received in Weimar with great enthusiasm. Richard not well, does no work, but writes letters instead.

In the afternoon announcement of an engagement between Doris Brockhaus and Richard Wagner, which made us laugh a lot; then an anonymous letter: Master, compose a Faust. I read Pohl the Parsifal sketch; in the evening read the biography.
