Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of February 25, 1878

Overview

Richard works but is vexed by the duet he must now compose, while the practical business of costumes and bells for Parsifal continues around him. The evening turns to Scott’s Waverley as the world of the festival slowly takes material shape.

Content

Monday, February 25:

R. works, is vexed about the “duet” he now has to compose. He reads a pamphlet about the Jews, an extract from a newspaper, the Deutsche Reichspost, which the author has sent him and which reveals some not very pleasant statistical facts.

I walk with the children up to the theater, on account of costumes. In the evening begin Waverley. The foundry here is starting work on the bell for Parsifal.
