Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of November 29, 1877

Overview

R.'s sleep is somewhat improved, though he still needs to rise once during the night, and he spends time reading and criticizing a stylistic flaw in his book. The couple enjoys a walk despite the gloomy weather, then returns home to domestic work, a dedication for the idyll, and more of the historical drama, with the new music box still a source of delight.

Letter from the Gralsritterschaft [“Knighthood of the Holy Grail”]. R. and I go for a walk in spite of the unpleasant, dark day. On our return home he writes the public dedication for the Idyll. The happiness we are permitted to enjoy seems to me like a blissful time already past, rather as it will one day appear to our children. My feelings of unworthiness mount daily. Dear God, I thank you for your grace, make me worthy of it!

4th and 5th acts of Henry VI. R. is still delighted with the music box, which he has named Klingsor.
