Cosima's Diaries

Diary Entry of November 15, 1877

Overview

The day is lighter in tone, with him cheerful but still dissatisfied over a canon and amused by wordplay in their evening reading. The narrator continues handling correspondence with publishers despite eye strain, so practical duties remain in the background.

Content

Thursday, November 15:

R. is in cheerful spirits, though dissatisfied, as he says, with a canon. We read C. Frantz in the evening; when I ask him what is meant by the Potenzen [“powers”], he says most probably the Popanzen [“bogeymen”]. Much laughter about this, as also about a sally concerning his barber Schnappauf, who has given a charity concert. For me, further correspondence with publishers, despite trouble with my eyes.
